THE LATEST
news and updates from the farm
Opening the market always feels like I’m a kid going back to school after summer vacation. I’ve just spent several months gardening at my own speed with a focus on whatever strikes me that day. Now, I must follow the clock and report for duty with a building full of garden bounty.
This year, we’ve brought in a few folks to help us out, so you’ll see some new faces, and some returning favorites. Madalyn Pennington is a local high school student interested in farming and eager for experience. Rhonda Cooper will be joining us on Thursdays. Many of you will recognize Maya, my great niece, who is working with us again for the summer, and Raul Jr., who will continue filling in at the market as needed. Mother Nature dealt a tough blow and as a result, U-Pick produce offerings will be limited this year to berries and apples. Enough trees made it that we’ll be able to offer our produce pre-picked in the market, so while we’re sad you won’t be able to pick your own peaches this year, you can still come buy some at the market. Without further ado…here’s what we expect in the market over the next couple of weeks. What’s at the market Produce Apples (Fuji, Pink Lady) (last season from cold storage) Blueberries Greens (green mustard, kale, lettuce) Herbs Microgreens Peas (green, snap, shoots) Radishes Raspberries (black, red) Rhubarb Shungiku (chrysanthemum greens) Sweet cherries Tomatoes (greenhouse) U-Pick Blueberries Raspberries (black, red) Flowers Prepared foods Apple cider Bread (fresh baked) Chutneys Eggs Granola Herbal vinegars Honeyberry juice Jams and jellies Teas
