We are excited to be in the process of getting our food truck up and running sometime this season. We love our new logo!
Opening the market always feels like I’m a kid going back to school after summer vacation. I’ve just spent several months gardening at my own speed with a focus on whatever strikes me that day. Now, I must follow the clock and report for duty with a building full of garden bounty.
This year, we’ve brought in a few folks to help us out, so you’ll see some new faces, and some returning favorites. Madalyn Pennington is a local high school student interested in farming and eager for experience. Rhonda Cooper will be joining us on Thursdays. Many of you will recognize Maya, my great niece, who is working with us again for the summer, and Raul Jr., who will continue filling in at the market as needed. Mother Nature dealt a tough blow and as a result, U-Pick produce offerings will be limited this year to berries and apples. Enough trees made it that we’ll be able to offer our produce pre-picked in the market, so while we’re sad you won’t be able to pick your own peaches this year, you can still come buy some at the market. Without further ado…here’s what we expect in the market over the next couple of weeks. What’s at the market Produce Apples (Fuji, Pink Lady) (last season from cold storage) Blueberries Greens (green mustard, kale, lettuce) Herbs Microgreens Peas (green, snap, shoots) Radishes Raspberries (black, red) Rhubarb Shungiku (chrysanthemum greens) Sweet cherries Tomatoes (greenhouse) U-Pick Blueberries Raspberries (black, red) Flowers Prepared foods Apple cider Bread (fresh baked) Chutneys Eggs Granola Herbal vinegars Honeyberry juice Jams and jellies Teas Another glorious season of fresh vegetables and produce is here—three seasons to be specific. Cross Keys Farm Market opens Tuesday, June 3 and this year, we’re staying open into November!
Our hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm We’ve been scrubbing, planting, and canning to get ready for opening. Some of our summer crops are slightly behind as it’s been a challenging spring with the late frost, rain, and cool temps--but don’t worry, we have plenty of spring treats. I’ve made jellies and tested new recipes for our prepared food offering, and we’re also bringing back our herbal teas and vinegars this year (raspberry vinegar pictured above). What’s at the market Produce Apples (last season from cold storage) Asparagus Carrots Grape leaves Herbs Kale Lettuce Microgreens Pea shoots Radishes Raspberries (red) Rhubarb Prepared foods Bread Chutneys Granola Herbal vinegars Jams and jellies Teas We can’t wait to see you and get this season started…please stop by and say hello! |
